A major challenge in Eaton is the divisive effect on the community of the A11 trunk road [Newmarket Road] that slices through the middle of the district and makes it hard to cross the road, makes it unsafe for traffic to turn into and out of side roads, forces cyclists to ride on the footways, and leads to speeding. The only way to reduce the impact of this road is to provide the Western Link between the A11 and the A47 joining the Norwich southern by-pass and the northern and the A47 to link the Norwich southern bypass with the northern distributor road [Broadland Northway]. Conservative councillors will maintain their pressure to deliver this scheme in full at the earliest opportunity.
Other issues of concern to local residents are the use by long distance coaches of narrow local roads like Bluebell Road for accessing the UEA when other more suitable routes are available, and the damage caused to grass verges and footways in Unthank Road by all-day non-residential parking. Conservative councillors will tackle these problems to improve the safety and amenity of Eaton.
