Dr Mike Spencer
Parliamentary Candidate for Norwich South
Dr Mike Spencer is a Consultant Psychiatrist who trained at the University of Cambridge, and has lived and worked in East Anglia for most of the past 25 years.
His first connection with Norwich was as a student doctor, when he was at the old Norfolk and Norwich Hospital when it was based in the city centre.
He has long-standing experience practising across the region, including in Norwich; and he currently practices professionally in Norwich, Cambridge and London.
"As a Consultant Psychiatrist with long-standing experience in child psychiatry and medical research and as the father of three young children, I'm really excited to bring the message of modern compassionate Conservative values onto the doorstep; to set out a positive vision for Norwich and for the country; and how I would champion healthcare, mental health services and medical research if elected."
Mike has worked for 20 years in the fields of medicine and psychiatry, with particular expertise in child psychiatry, autism and chronic pain conditions.
Mike has been involved in medical research for many years also; he ran a large fMRI brain imaging study of autism at the Autism Research Centre in Cambridge, where he brought in £1M funding from the Medical Research Council. This was a large and very successful research programme. He is passionate about the mental health of young people and those with additional support needs, such as autism spectrum conditions.
“I am passionate about improving the prioritisation of mental health services for young people and ensuring the best possible future for our children.”
Mike will campaign for investment and jobs to come to Norwich and help create high quality infrastructure and opportunities for jobs. He will fight for the highest quality transport infrastructure into and out of the city, to help local businesses thrive and to support the development of quality jobs in Norwich.
