Norwich Conservatives recognise that we can’t afford another five years of Gordon Brown. We need to raise standards in schools, by providing a new generation of independent state schools run by teachers who know your child’s name, not by politicians.
Antony Little, a City High School teacher and Conservative Parliamentary candidate for Norwich South, welcomed plans brought forward by the Conservative Party to reform the Education system. He stated: “As a parent and a teacher, this is a subject particularly close to my heart and I support Conservative plans to de-politicise the education system."
“In Norwich we have some great places to learn but many City schools have been in special measures. If I am lucky enough to be elected MP for Norwich South, I will fight from day-one for better schools in the City. A Conservative government will act to raise standards. We will immediately change the law so we can set hundreds of good schools free from political interference and enable them to help struggling schools. We will enable them to re-open as academies this September. “
Recognising the difficulty for parents attempting to get their children into their first choice school, he commented: “We can’t go on with too many parents failing to get the school they want for their children. The reality is that it is only the rich who can guarantee the kind of education they want for their children and this is completely unacceptable. The Conservatives will create a new generation of independent, free, and non-selective primary and secondary schools. They will be funded by taxpayers but run by teachers and responsible to parents, not micromanaged by politicians. This will give parents what they want – smaller schools with smaller classes, good behaviour, great teachers and restored confidence in the curriculum.”
