Conservatives have welcomed news that the City Council is to plough an extra £78,000 into providing gritting for sheltered housing in Norwich to help when the weather is poor.
Speaking at a Scrutiny Committee meeting at City Hall today (Monday) Conservative Councillor Antony Little welcomed the plans and said it would make a great difference to people.
Cllr Little said:
"Many senior citizens found the worse thing about the recent poor weather lacking the freedom to get out and about. Especially during icy times, many residents could not even go outside."
"Gritting of sheltered housing is a very positive move indeed. It isn't only roads which need attention during bad weather. City Hall bosses now say that they are working on plans to see who will do the gritting but this plan means that the provision will be in place to allow it to happen."
"The Conservatives will be pleased to support this pro-active move."
Currently the gritting is done as part of a deal with Norfolk County Council. This move by City Hall will supplement that agreement.
